Businessman Docked for scamming His Girlfriend of N1.8 Million

Daodu, who resides at No.24 Akinyemi St. Onipanu, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and fraud.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Ishola Samuel, told the court that the accused and the complainant, Miss Omofela Ogunniyi, were lovers.

Samuel said that the offences were committed between March 3 and June 12, 2012 at Onipanu, Lagos.

He said that the accused collected the money from the complainant under the pretext of investing it in the contract of installing MTN mast “and promised to return the money to her with interest.”

According to the prosecutor, the accused also promised to secure a regular employment for her sister at MTN communication.

He said that the accused fraudulently diverted the money into personal use.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

According to the law, a person who obtains by false pretences is guilty of a felony and liable to 15 years imprisonment.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O Tanimola, granted the accused N500, 000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till October 14, for further hearing.
