Former National Vice-Chairman, defunct Congress for Progressive Change, (South-West), Alhaji Rasaq Muse, has said that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has outlived its usefulness in the nation’s political sphere.
The APC chief, while making reference to the inauguration of the APC in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, noted that the crisis rocking the PDP signalled the imminent collapse of the party.
Muse said, “The PDP has already outlived its usefulness. Nemesis has caught up with it. That is exactly the problem that is in the party now. Things are falling apart with the PDP now as the centre cannot hold anymore.
“The PDP in the last 14 years has not really come up with good governance that the nation requires. A nation has to be productive to make growth and development happen. To be productive, you have to get the infrastructure and education right in order to become a productive nation. It is then that there can be growth and increase in the standard of living.
“Investment must come with technology. But that is not the case in Nigeria. Recently, President Goodluck Jonathan was in China to sign bilateral agreement. You discover that it is the same approach that we have been applying for the past 40 years that the government is still using. Various nations have been dumping their products on us while we remain a consuming nation.
“The leadership should ensure judicious use of the lean income through allocation of greater percentage of resources to capital expenditure.
“The APC controlled states would have performed wonders if they had the size of resources and population available to the oil producing states. APC holds a huge promise for the citizens in terms of good governance.”
He said the leadership of the party was conscious of the realities of its merger and “they (leaders) are up to the task of ensuring that the differences are solved. Really, it is not easy for parties to come together.”
On the altercation between some groups within the newly inaugurated APC in Ekiti State, Muse said, “In a family there could be differences but if there is need to sort out matters, we would do so. We are resolved to bringing about the desired change at the local, state and national level. That change means a change for the better. It is a visible change that will impact the people. Whatever is the grievance, we are going to sort it out,” he said.
