THE Federal Government has declared Tuesday and Wednesday, October 15 and 16 respectively, as public holidays to mark Eid-el-Kabir sallah celebration.

Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, made the declaration on behalf of the government, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Fatima Bamidele, in Abuja, on Thursday.

He congratulated the Muslim faithful and enjoined them and all other Nigerians to join hands with President Goodluck Jonathan in his sustained efforts to raise Nigeria to the next level of development.

He further urged all Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace and unity across the nation.

Moro, in the statement, “wishes all Nigerians a most rewarding and peaceful celebration.”

The Federal Government has stated that contrary to speculation that changes have been made in the dates earlier declared as public holidays in commemoration of the Eid-el-Kabir festival, Monday October 14 remains a working day.

Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro on Friday said the clarification became necessary following the strings of misinformation published by some media houses in the country.

A terse press release from his office yesterday reaffirmed that the dates of the Sallah holiday “still remains Tuesday, 15th and Wednesday, 16th October, 2013.

“The public should please be informed that there has been no shift in the dates.

Concluding the statement, Moro wishes all Nigerians “a most rewarding and peaceful celebration.
