Security guards ‘took bribes to let extra fans inside’ Asake concert — where two died

A security guard who worked at the O2 Academy Brixton has claimed that other guards took bribes to let extra people inside Asake concert. In December, the security at Asake concert in London was breached in a crowd crush that led to the deaths of two people. The singer put together a show at the 4900-capacity concert venue where he performed his debut album. The music event was, however, cancelled mid-way after a crowd of thousands without tickets breached the doors. According to BBC. the security guard, who used the pseudonym Rohan, said there had not been enough security for the Asake show. Rohan alleged that members of his team would allow “a couple of hundred” extra people into venues — without tickets — in exchange for cash. According to him, some of his colleagues allegedly made as much as £1,000.  “There were people taking money… Some staff made £1,000 cash,” Rohan, who was part of a contracted security team employed by AP Security, told BBC. “Our company knew what was going on and they knew the people who were doing it… and they did nothing about it.” On Monday, Lambeth council’s licensing sub-committee announced O2 Briton’s licence suspension for three months over the incident. The suspension came after a request by the Met Police who are investigating the stampede.
