Farouk Lawan, Remember him? Court adjourns $620,000 bribe case to Nov 27

A high court in Abuja has adjourned to November the 27th the trial of Farouk Lawan and Boniface Emenalo over alleged $620, 000 bribes.

Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi refused the application by Lawan’s counsel, Ricky Tarfa, to adjourn the case indefinitely pending the determination of the appeal before the Appeal Court in Abuja.

Lawan and Emenalo, who were erstwhile Chairman and Secretary of the House of Representatives Committee on Fuel Subsidy, were charged by the federal government with obtaining the sum of $620,000 in bribes from businessman Femi Otedola to remove his company, Zenon Oil and Gas limited from companies indicted in the fuel subsidy fraud.

Farouk as the Chairman of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy Probe, was alleged to have negotiated the sum of $3million as bribe and collected $650,000 from the Chairman of Zenon Oil and Gas Limited, Mr. Femi Otedola.

it will be recalled that constitutional lawyer, Festus Keyamo, entered a 4-count criminal charge against the lawmaker for allegedly collecting the sum of $3million as bribe from Mr Otedola.
