The Kano State Government, today declared Monday, November 4, 2013, as public holiday.

The declaration, it explained, is to commemorate new Islamic year, 1435 A.H.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Head of Service, Mustapha Fagge, noted that the holiday was declared to allow workers mark the first day of the Islamic year which starts with the month of Muharram.

It urged the people to observe the day by praying for peace in the state and the country in general.

The state government appealed to indigenes and residents to continue to live in peace with one another so as to enhance economic growth and development of the state.

In the meantime, Kano is the only state that has made such declaration in the country.
