Real or imagined? NGV examines both sides of photography — in pictures

In the largest survey of its vast photographic collection, the National Gallery of Victoria has chosen more than 200 photographs by Australian and international photographers that exemplify the form’s ability to both capture reality and fool us with fantasy. Senior curator Susan van Wyk explains 16 must-see photos from the exhibition.

Photography: Real and Imagined is on at the NGV in Melbourne from 13 October until January 2024
