Jonathan, Wife In German Hospital

Indications emerged yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience may have visited a German hospital for medical check up during his stop over in that country.

According to a report by an online media, Sahara Reporters,  the president and his wife were billed to “undergo tests and receive treatment in the same German hospital where his wife spent several months last year”.

Attempt by LEADERSHIP to get the presidency to confirm the said report failed. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati to could not reply the e-mail sent to him by our correspondent seeking a reaction to the online report. Also, Political Adviser to the president, Ahmed Gulak did not pick calls made to him last night.

The presidential spokesman had issued a statement on Tuesday indicating that Jonathan was leaving the country for Germany en-route to Paris, France where he is scheduled to participate in the Summit on Peace and Security in Africa.

Abati stated that about 50 heads of state and government are expected to participate in the Elysee Palace Summit which will be hosted by President Francois Hollande of France.

“President Jonathan will be accompanied by the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, relevant ministers and the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.). He will stop-over in Germany for a private visit on his way to Paris and return to Abuja at the conclusion of the summit on Saturday”, the statement noted.

On a recent trip to London, the president who had fallen ill received treatment for what the presidency later described as acute abdomen.

But Sahara Reporters claimed yesterday that its “source revealed that plans were made for the president to receive medical attention in Germany after Mr. Jonathan suddenly fell ill last weekend in his home-state of Bayelsa during a visit there.

“The president’s sudden illness almost led to his emergency evacuation to Germany, our Presidency source said.

Mrs. Jonathan is also expected to receive follow-up medical treatment in the German hospital”.
