Do you agree with President Goodluck on human rights check on OBJ's letter?

The National Human Rights Commission, (NHRC) has received the 18-page letter written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President Goodluck Jonathan.

The President had last week directed the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke, to forward the letter to the commission for through investigation.

Jonathan had earlier disclosed that he would send the letter to the NHRC, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission (ICPC) and the security agencies to look into the issues raised by Obasanjo.

The AGF, in a memo dated December 23 and addressed to the Executive Secretary of the commission, Bem Angwe, requested the commission to probe the allegations bothering on the human rights violations contained on Pages 9-10 of the said letter dated December 2.

The memo reads in part: “May I draw your attention to the above and the attached State House Memorandum dated December 23, 2013 in respect of the above subject matter.

“I am to request you to investigate the allegations bothering on the human rights violations contained on pages 9-10 of the latter dated December 2, 2013, written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, attached to the memorandum under reference.

“In order to properly delineate the issues within your sphere of competence, particularly as other issues raised in the letter are being investigated by appropriate agencies of government, I have decided to reproduce the relevant paragraphs below”.
