Motorists who violate traffic rules and are apprehended by officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, will now have a date in court for prosecution.

As part of a safety initiative for the festivities, the corps set up quick response for road incidences and the mobile court is part of that package.

Officials of the corps said that the measure is not punitive but would further deter people who before now would only be asked to pay fines for contravening traffic rules.

They also revealed that the enforcement of the mobile court seems to have more effect than ordinary patrol as people are scared of being taken to court, because they are aware that being convicted is a dent on their image.

“It is a way of cautioning them and sending a signal to other road users that it is not only about paying money for fines but by facing the law and getting penalized.” - Channels
