27 Sokoto Lawmakers sued by PDP Over Defection To APC
« on: January 17, 2014, 09:15:33 AM »
Two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Magaji Gusau, Al-Mustapha Wurno and the party have dragged 27 members of the Sokoto State House of Assembly before the Federal High Court in Sokoto for alleged constitutional breach, following their defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a suit filed yesterday, the plaintiffs are asking the court to declare their seats vacant, even as they seek the court’s nod for the National Assembly to take over the running of the affairs of the  state Assembly until law and order is restored in the lawmaking chamber.

In the suit  in which the plaintiffs named the 27 defected lawmakers as defendants, they also joined the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Inspector-General of Police and the National Assembly as co-defendants.  No date has been fixed for the hearing of the matter.
