« on: January 17, 2014, 12:30:15 PM »
An electronic tax payment system has been launched for Nigeria’s Edo State as part of efforts to tackle the problem of multiple taxation.

The state government has said all eligible taxpayers in the region are planned to be issued with a taxation identification number (TIN) to make the process of paying taxes more convenient.

Governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, said nationally, the project is designed to cover all Nigerians, irrespective of their areas of residence.

He said the exercise is particularly planned to help to eliminate multiple taxations, as he added that it is in the interest of the citizens as well to build a national database.

The governor said that in Nigeria, tax is compulsory, and he urged citizens of Edo to take part in the exercise.
