President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday commended leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for maturity and great sense of commitment in resolving the challenges of the party in recent times.

He, therefore, charged them to give the new chairman, Adamu Muazu, all necessary support as he seeks to reform the ruling party.

Jonathan stated that Muazu was appointed because of the need to rebuild, and reconcile all elements within the party, adding that he attracted the attention of stakeholders because he does not play politics of ethnicity, religion and regionalism.

“We need somebody who will build bridges, not somebody who will be fighting, fighting and fighting. We lost election in many states not because we were not strong but because most party leaders could not agree for the sake of the party,” the president said.

“We want our new chairman to reduce tension among leaders. It is instructive that your governor was the one who nominated you. That is a good omen. Most governors won’t want the national chairman to come from their states.”

The President also expressed delight that the PDP was able to install a new chairman without any member of the party seeking a court injunction against the process. http://dailypost.com.ng/2014/01/21/muazus-election-want-someone-will-build-bridges-reduce-tension-jonathan/
