LG crisis: Osun APC cautions PDP against whipping up sentiments

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has cautioned the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against whipping up sentiments to gain unmerited public sympathy over the ongoing local government crisis in the state. The Osun APC stated that its members were acting in line with the landmark judgement of the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, which reinstated the elected APC chairmen and councillors. In a statement signed on Wednesday by Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, the party asserted that it does not take “rocket science” to see that the Osun PDP—under the chairmanship of Sunday Bisi and the governorship of Ademola Adeleke—has been the aggressor in the ongoing political crisis plaguing the state. The statement accused Governor Adeleke of unleashing his “goons” to attack APC supporters across the state and criticised Sunday Bisi for frequently insulting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, at every opportunity.“Such behaviour does not demonstrate strength of character on the part of the rattled PDP state chairman but instead exposes his weakness, showing a lack of essential upbringing, which has now become his stock-in-trade,” the statement read.Olabisi dismissed Bisi’s recent remarks as “crocodile tears,” insisting they would not deter the police from identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the killings of APC members.“Does the embattled state PDP chairman want to tell the good people of Osun State that it was not his party’s hired thugs who killed our serving chairman of Irewole Local Government Council Area, Hon. Remi Abass, in a coordinated attack on Monday in Ikire?” the statement queried.“We were fortunate as a party that one of our esteemed chieftains, an Executive Director in the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Abuja, Engr. Remi Omowaiye, and Hon. Tobi Famurewa narrowly escaped being killed by Adeleke’s thugs on Monday when the hoodlums riddled Omowaiye’s vehicle with bullets.”Olabisi further accused Sunday Bisi of sinking to new lows by attacking the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for carrying out his constitutional duties.“The IGP cannot be faulted for upholding Section 287(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which states: ‘The decisions of the Court of Appeal shall be enforced in any part of the Federation by all authorities and persons.’“How does this statutory role of the police amount to an alleged plot to assassinate the Osun State governor? Such reckless and baseless accusations against the nation’s police chief exist only in the imagination of someone whose reasoning is influenced by a hard substance,” the statement added.Earlier, the Osun PDP, during a world press conference, accused the IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, of plotting to assassinate Governor Ademola Adeleke. The Osun PDP also alleged that the IGP was attempting to destabilise the state through orchestrated violence, claiming he had deployed Police Special Forces to escort “miscreants” into local government council secretariats to incite unrest. The allegations come amid the ongoing local government crisis in the state.
