Tax Evasion : Kaduna To Close 200 Private Schools and Hospitals
« on: February 12, 2014, 10:50:21 AM »
The Kaduna State government yesterday said it would close 200 private schools, hospitals, eateries and federal institutions that failed to settle their levies.

The executive chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenues, Alhaji Muhammad Tanko, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.

Tanko, therefore, directed the organisations to settle their levies within seven days or be closed.

He said the action became necessary as the state government lost N18 billion as revenue in 2013.

He said the failure of the organisations to remit taxes had impacted adversely on government activities, especially on the projects being executed in parts of the state.

“Although we have 70 revenue generating MDAs, the board and the state Ministry of Land are the two major revenue sources in the state.’’

Tanko said the ministry had taken measures to boost its revenue generation, adding that the state government would reinforce its revenue machinery to improve revenue generation.

“We will also work with the legislators to ensure that relevant laws are initiated to replace obsolete ones to enhance revenue generation.

“We will enhance revenue collections at various levels, to enable the state government to implement the budget as planned.’’
