FG Releases N100bn Special Intervention For Universities

The federal government has announced the release of another N100billion Special Intervention Fund for public universities nationwide and will from Monday begin a technical session for the vice chancellors.

This was disclosed yesterday in a document released to the affected universities by the special assistant on media to the supervising minister of education, Barr Nyesom Wike.

He said the allocation papers for this tranche of development fund were signed by the director of Tertiary Education of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Hindatu Abdulahi.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the initial meeting which was chaired by the supervising minister of education, Barr Nyesom Wike had in attendance, the executive secretary of the National Universities Commission(NUC), TETFUND officials, ASUU, SSANU, NASU, NAAT, representatives of vice chancellors, pro-chancellors and officials of the Federal Ministry of Education.

A source at the meeting stated that all public universities have submitted their work-plan to the Implementation Monitoring Committee with most of them approved and construction work expected to commence as soon as the procurement jobs are completed.

The highly placed source at the meeting stated that members were unhappy with a national officer of ASUU for making unguarded statement to the media that was capable of generating unnecessary tension in the academic community.

It was learnt that the supervising minister of education and top officials of the Federal Ministry of Education were mandated by the committee to organise a technical briefing for all the vice chancellors of the public universities in the country on the modalities for the payment.
