Protest rocks Lagos APC secretariat over Akinsanya’s renomination

Residents of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area,
LCDA, stormed the Lagos State All Progressives Congress, APC, secretariat in
Ikeja to protest, opposing Lasisi Akinsanya’s renomination for another term as
chairman.

The protesters who were seen with placards and banners,
voiced their dissatisfaction with Akinsanya’s leadership, citing what they
described as a lack of progress in the LCDA under his administration.

Their grievances extended beyond Akinsanya, as they also
criticized former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola and APC chieftain Enilolobo
for allegedly supporting his candidacy.

Comrade Olokodana Bukhari, who spoke on behalf of the
protesters, delivered a strong message to the APC leadership, warning that
Akinsanya’s renomination could have far-reaching political consequences.

“Hon. Lasisi Akinsanya has been imposed as the party’s
candidate for the coming polls. We are here to alert the party hierarchy that
he is not fit to represent our LCDA. Endorsing his candidacy is a recipe for
disaster in 2025 and could affect the APC’s fortunes in the 2027 general
elections,” Bukhari said.

Bukhari also accused Akinsanya of being politically aligned
with figures who, according to him, have not acted in the party’s best
interests. He claimed that during previous elections, Akinsanya failed to
deliver for the APC and questioned his commitment to party goals.

He described the council’s standing as consistently poor,
often appearing at the bottom of the state’s monthly development reports. He
argued that Akinsanya’s leadership reflects stagnation and underdevelopment.

“All the protesters you are seeing here are residents of the
LCDA without any political affiliations. We therefore called on the party
hierarchy to review the candidature of Hon. Akinsanya,“ he added.

A women leader in the area, Mrs Dayo Aderinmola, urged the
APC to investigate the concerns raised in the formal petition, warning that the
community had experienced minimal development during Akinsanya’s tenure.

The APC state secretary, Dr Adeola Jokomba, addressed the
protesters outside the secretariat. He assured them that their concerns would
be reviewed and cautioned against any attempts by external elements to hijack
the protest.

Jokomba acknowledged the formal complaint by signing the
letter presented and promised that the group’s leader, Comrade Adebayo Ifedayo,
would be contacted by party officials before the end of the week.
