NUT Urges President Tinubu to Implement Approved Welfare Packages for Teachers

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has called on President Bola Tinubu to implement welfare packages approved for teachers by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020. The union's National President, Comrade Audu Amba, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, on Sunday, June 08.The NUT is seeking the implementation of welfare packages approved five years ago, which include:    - Special Salary Scale for teachers in basic and secondary schools    - Bursary awards for education students    - Special Teachers Pension Scheme    - Extended retirement age to 65 years    - Construction of low-cost houses and special allowances for rural area teachers    - Peculiar allowance for science teachers    - Automatic admission and employment for teachers' children and education graduates    - Loan facilities for agriculture, housing, cars, and motorcyclesThe unfulfilled promises have affected teachers' morale, productivity, and well-being.The NUT is urging the federal and state governments to implement the approved incentives to boost teachers' morale and performance. The union believes that implementing these packages will encourage teachers to deliver better services and improve the overall quality of education in Nigeria.
