NNPP Lawmakers Visit Kwankwaso to Strengthen Party Unity

A delegation of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) lawmakers, led by Senator Rufai Sani Hanga and Honorable Abdulmumin Jibrin, visited former Kano State Governor and NNPP national leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at his Maitama residence in Abuja. The group, which included several members of the House of Representatives, aimed to reinforce party cohesion and discuss strategic plans, according to reports. While specific details of the discussions were not publicly disclosed, the visit is seen as a move to solidify the NNPP’s political strategy, particularly in Kano and northwestern Nigeria, where Kwankwaso commands significant influence through his Kwankwasiyya movement. The meeting follows a pattern of Kwankwaso engaging with key political figures, amid speculations of potential realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. For instance, earlier in 2025, Kwankwaso met with APC leaders like former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, fueling rumors of a possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), though no confirmation has emerged. The delegation, headed by Senator Hanga—a known ally of Kwankwaso who previously led a committee to reconcile with other politicians like Alhassan Ado Doguwa in 2022—underscores the NNPP’s efforts to consolidate its base. Honorable Jibrin, a long-time associate of Kwankwaso and former campaign spokesperson during the 2023 presidential election, has been instrumental in advancing the party’s agenda. No official statement from the NNPP or Kwankwaso’s team has detailed the agenda, but the timing and composition of the delegation point to efforts to strengthen party unity and leverage Kwankwaso’s influence as a charismatic populist with a loyal following in Kano. Further details may emerge as the NNPP continues to navigate Nigeria’s dynamic political landscape.
