Lamido of Adamawa Allocates 2,000 Hectares for $80M Adamawa Agri-Hub

In a transformative step toward enhancing food security and youth employment, the Lamido of Adamawa has approved 2,000 hectares of fertile land for a modern agricultural hub in Adamawa State. The initiative, part of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, is led by Business Development Managers Consultancy Services (BDMCs) in partnership with the Adamawa Emirate Council and the state government.Announced at the Lamido’s palace, the hub will be a comprehensive agribusiness platform, covering cultivation, processing, packaging, export, and training. It is expected to create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs for youths. BDMCs-Nigeria Chairman Abubakar Umar Al-Umar praised the Lamido’s vision, noting the hub will focus on high-demand crops like yellow maize, sesame seeds, ginger, turmeric, soybeans, and hibiscus, alongside livestock and fisheries operations, including poultry, goat farming, and fish production.Emirate Secretary Umar Yahaya, representing the Lamido, reiterated the council’s commitment to development and food security. BDMCs Vice Chairman Chief Peter Alex Olayinka described the $80 million project, backed by American financiers and Chinese machinery, as a game-changer for local production and revenue, with plans for expansion to Osun and Delta States. The hub will employ advanced techniques like river dredging, crop sensing, and greenhouse cultivation for year-round farming. It will also house a Tropical Institute of Agriculture, training youths from all 36 states in agribusiness and providing financial support and export offtake. Infrastructure includes an Agro-City with an Administrative Complex, Hostels, a Farm Market Square, a 3-Star Hotel, an Aquatic Farm Restaurant, and a helipad.Supported by Sterling Bank and Keystone Bank Ltd, the hub aims to set a national standard for modern agriculture, blending tradition, innovation, and youth empowerment.
