Atiku Hands Over Yola Property, Former Adamawa PDP Secretariat to ADC

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially handed over one of his prime properties in Yola, located at the prominent Mubi Roundabout in Jimeta, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for use as its Adamawa State Secretariat. The property, which previously served as the state headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and still bore PDP branding as of Thursday evening, marks a significant step in Atiku’s efforts to elevate the ADC’s influence in his home state. The donation follows Atiku’s high-profile resignation from the PDP last month, a move accompanied by the defection of key allies to the ADC, including Senator Aishatu Ahmed (Binani), the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa for the 2023 elections, and former APC Governor of Adamawa (2015-2019), Senator Jibrilla Bindow. These defections have significantly boosted the ADC’s profile in the state, positioning it as a growing force in Nigeria’s opposition landscape.Umar Jada, Assistant National Organising Secretary and Zonal Organising Secretary of the ADC, who shares Atiku’s Jada heritage, hailed the property transfer as a transformative move for the party. “This generous gift from His Excellency Atiku Abubakar will provide the ADC with a befitting work environment, strengthening our operational capacity and presence in Adamawa,” Jada said. He noted that the modern facility, valued for its strategic location, will serve as a hub for the party’s activities and membership drives. An ADC state official, speaking anonymously to reporters, confirmed the handover but explained that the building retains PDP colors because the PDP has yet to remove its assets from the premises. Efforts to reach the Adamawa ADC Chairman, Hon. Shehu Yohanna, for comment were unsuccessful.Atiku’s media office described the donation as a strategic move to foster democratic growth, denying speculations of a formal defection to the ADC. “The former vice president remains committed to supporting platforms that advance Nigeria’s democratic ideals,” a statement read.
