Fubara Vows to Sanctions Perm Secs Who Flouted Rules During Rivers Emergency Rule

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has issued a stern warning to permanent secretaries accused of breaching civil service standards and engaging in illegalities during the state's six-month emergency rule, declaring that "there will be no hiding place for compromised officials."   Fubara made the remarks on Friday at the Government House while swearing in Austin Ezekiel-Hart as a new permanent secretary, praising the appointee's professionalism amid the political turmoil that led to the emergency declaration in April 2025.
  The period, imposed by President Bola Tinubu to quell escalating tensions between Fubara and pro-Wike lawmakers, suspended democratic institutions and tested the state's administrative resilience.
 Addressing the senior civil servants present—including the State Head of Service and retained commissioners—Fubara emphasized accountability, stating, "You’ll be held accountable for your actions."
  He accused some of compromising their duties by supporting actions that deviated from due process, contrasting this with Ezekiel-Hart's refusal to yield to pressures. "He stood his ground as a professional... Knowing that you do the right thing, defend your superior. It doesn’t matter, but do it in the right way," the governor noted, highlighting merit-based promotions post-crisis.
