U.S. Wheat Shipment Worth $15 Million Arrives in Lagos as Bilateral Agricultural Trade Surges

A bulk carrier loaded with 50,000 metric tonnes of American wheat worth approximately $15 million berthed at Apapa Port on Monday, further cementing Nigeria’s status as the third-largest market for U.S. wheat exports.U.S. Consul General Rick Swart and U.S. Agricultural Counselor Chris Bielecki joined port officials to receive the vessel, marking another milestone in deepening agricultural cooperation between the two countries. The shipment is part of a surge in bilateral agricultural trade, which is projected to more than double this year and exceed $700 million by the end of 2025.Officials say the growing imports of high-quality U.S. wheat are enabling Nigerian food processors to expand production, create thousands of jobs, and supply affordable, nutritious products to millions of households.“This steady flow of American wheat demonstrates the strength of our commercial partnership and the vital role agriculture plays in the broader U.S.-Nigeria economic relationship,” the U.S. Consulate stated.
