Rufai Oseni Shares Old Video of Wike Vowing Against Choosing Successor

Arise Television presenter Rufai Oseni has shared a resurfaced video clip of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, in which the former Rivers State governor strongly denounced political godfatherism and pledged never to impose a successor. The old footage, dating back to Wike's time as governor, shows him addressing journalists and declaring: “The day I leave as Governor of Rivers State, in the name of Almighty God, I have no power to choose a successor because the people have the right to decide who leads them.”In the video, Wike emphasised that handpicking a successor or engaging in godfather politics “can only happen in Lagos and not Rivers State,” describing leadership as temporary and citing former Governor Peter Odili as an example of someone who left office without attempting to impose a successor. The clip, which has gone viral on social media, comes amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State between Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.Oseni's decision to highlight the video has sparked renewed discussions on political succession and consistency in Nigerian politics, with many viewing it as a pointed commentary on Wike's current influence in Rivers State affairs.
