AFCON 2025: Why I saved Mohamed Salah, Marmoush penalties – Nwabali

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has explained why
he was able to stop Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush's penalty kicks during the
shootout win against Egypt on Saturday night.

Nwabali had a great performance as Nigeria beat the Pharaohs
4-2 in a penalty shootout after the game was tied 0-0 at the end of regular
time, and both Salah and Marmoush missed their kicks from the spot.

After the match, the Chippa United captain said that even
though he did not watch videos of their penalties, his knowledge of the players
from watching them in their club games helped a lot.

Nwabali said that Salah is one of the best players in
Africa, and maybe even in the whole world.

“I do watch them, but not the same way I watch their
penalties. I watch them play for their clubs,” he said.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper said saving their penalties is a
personal goal and a big moment in his career.

He said, “I think this is going to be my biggest chance to
help these guys avoid penalties. It’s just my goal in this penalty shootout
because saving Mohamed Salah’s penalty gives me a big boost. I feel like it
really helped me out.”

Nwabali’s amazing performance got him the Man of the Match
award and let him end the tournament in a great way.

Nwabali let in only four goals and kept four clean sheets,
and didn’t let any goals in during the knockout rounds.
