1st score: Conference Unanimously Adopts 70% Consensus Vote
« on: April 01, 2014, 06:38:53 AM »
n a new atmosphere of cordiality, devoid of the usual rancour, the delegates to the  National Conference Monday unanimously adopted a voting pattern of 70 per cent for the resolution of any contentious issue, thus confirming THISDAY's exclusive report on Friday.

But the delegates rejected the decision of the 50-man committee to, along with principal officers, constitute themselves into a select committee for the purposes of appointing chairmen and deputy chairmen of the conference committees.

Also, as the delegates commenced the debate of President Goodluck Jonathan’s speech at the inauguration of the National Conference, wherein they lamented the effects of oil on the economy, absence of true federalism, ethnicity, rising unemployment, general insecurity and religious intolerance in the country.

The arrival at the 70 per cent  consensus vote may not be unconnected with the refusal of President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene in the resolution of the controversy.

According to a source, quoting the president, "if the committee of this eminent Nigerians cannot resolve a matter of this nature and if I should intervene, then it is no longer the peoples national conference."
