JAMB Debunks Claims of UTME Registration Fee Increase for 2026

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has firmly denied reports suggesting an increase in registration fees for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), labeling such claims as false, misleading, and entirely unfounded. In an official statement issued today by JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board clarified that the approved fees have remained unchanged since 2019, following a reduction approved by the Federal Executive Council in 2018 that lowered the base application fee from ₦5,000 to ₦3,500, effective from the 2019 exercise. The confirmed registration fees for the 2026 UTME/Direct Entry are as follows:Direct Entry (DE): ₦5,700   UTME only (without Mock Examination): ₦7,200   UTME with Mock Examination: ₦8,700  JAMB provided a detailed breakdown of the components included in these amounts:  Application Fee: ₦3,500   Reading Text: ₦1,000   CBT Centre Registration Service Charge: ₦700   CBT Centre UTME Service Charge: ₦1,500   Bank Charges: ₦500   CBT Mock-UTME Centre Charge (optional): ₦1,500  Despite rising operational costs over the years, JAMB emphasized its commitment to maintaining these stable rates to ease the financial burden on candidates and their families. The board urged prospective candidates, parents, and guardians to disregard the misleading publications and rely exclusively on information from JAMB’s official verified platforms, advertisements, and website (www.jamb.gov.ng) (www.jamb.gov.ng).JAMB also appealed to any candidates who may have been charged above the approved amounts at CBT centres to report such incidents promptly with credible evidence, reinforcing its stance against exploitation. The clarification comes amid ongoing 2026 UTME registration, as the board continues efforts to ensure transparency, accessibility, and fairness in the tertiary admissions process.
