Army takes back news that they have freed 100 girls

The Nigerian Military has retracted it's earlier statement that they have freed the 107 young girls abducted by terrorist sect Boko Haram.

The Girls are all students of the Government Girls' Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State and were kidnapped on Monday night .

The Defence Headquarters spokesman had assured Nigerians that the 107 girls have all regained their freedom after the military intervened in the situation and only 8 were still held captive by the insurgents.

But immediately after the spokesman's statement were heard, the principal of the affected school, Asabe Kwambura and officials of the Borno government debuked them and revealed most of the girls were still kidnapped.

Principal, Mrs. Kwambura said: "There is nothing in the military statement that is true about our abducted girls,", "Up till now we are still waiting and praying for the safe return of the students; all I know is that we have only 14 of them, and the security people especially the Vigilante and the well meaning volunteers of Gwoza are still out searching for them."

The principal's statement brought shame to the military and it had to immediately take down it's earlier statement as Nigerians became visibly angry and frustrated with them and accused them of playing politics with the lives of the abducted girls.

The military on Thursday however came out and said that it was deferring to the principal of the school and the Borno government on the correct number of girls that have so far been freed.

The military spokeseman Mr. Olukolade said: "In the light of the denial by the principal of the school, the Defence Headquarters wishes to defer to the school principal and Governor's statement on the number of students still missing and retract that aspect of earlier statement while the search continues,"

Mr Olukolade fiercely denied that the Nigerian Army was playing politics with the lives of her citizens and explained that the information they earlier passed on to the public was information from the field and as they had no reason to doubt it, they released it to the public.
