Jonathan and Oyinlola holds secret meeting in Aso Rock
« on: July 02, 2014, 07:25:15 AM »
Former national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olagunsoye Oyinlola, yesterday made a surprise appearance at the presidential villa, Abuja, where he met with President Goodluck Jonathan.

Oyinlola whose running battle with the leadership of the PDP forced him to be fraternising will All Progressives Congress (APC), however, maintained his ground that he remained the authentic national scribe of the party .

The former Osun State governor was removed from office as the secretary of the PDP, but he headed for the court where he got judgment in his favour.

Although he did not disclose the reason for his visit to Aso Rock, LEADERSHIP gathered that Oyinlola’s visit to the president may not be unconnected to the oncoming Osun State governorship election in August.

After he left the president’s office, Oyinlola who addressed State House correspondents on the controversy surrounding his position as PDP secretary said, “All I am telling you is that Oyinlola in the face of the law remains the authentic secretary of the PDP; anybody in that office for now is a pretender.”

Oyinlola, it was also learnt, visited Aso Rock on Monday with his supporters, and when asked about what was discussed at the meeting, he said, “I was taken to the Villa by the chairman of the party, PDP, and we had some discussions as to how to move the fortunes of the party forward.”

A source in PDP told LEADERSHIP that as a former governor of the state, the party needed to settle with him before the election in a desperate move to exploit his political structure in reclaiming the state from the ruling APC.

“Oyinlola’s meeting with Jonathan was basically on how to resolve the knotty issues concerning his removal from office as PDP secretary, in the attempt to bring him back to the party’s fold, all in a bid to ensure the party win Osun election as it did in Ekiti State”, the source who preferred not to be named said.
