The embattled Governor of Adamawa state, Murtala Nyako was reportedly handed some conditions by the Presidency for the impeachment moves against him to be halted.

It will be recalled that Nyako was in Abuja to attend the Council of State meeting on Tuesday which reportedly had Governors from the Peoples Democratic Party as well as some former Heads of state in attendance.

An online medium is reporting that the Adamawa Governor approached the President cap-in-hand together with two unnamed former presidents for him (Jonathan) to wade into the impeachment saga.

The president then reportedly gave ‘some conditions with which the embattled governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako will be staved off the axe of impeachment hanging over his head.’

According to an unnamed source, the President while stating he had no hand in the impeachment move, reminded Nyako of the insults he heaped upon him in a letter the governor wrote two months ago to his colleagues in the northern states of Nigeria accusing the president of promoting genocide in the north in the name of fighting Boko Haram.

The Presidency then requested that ‘Nyako must first withdraw the inciting letter he wrote to the northern governors early this year and publicly apologise to Jonathan and Nigerians as a condition for intervening in the impeachment process.’

Nyako reportedly stood his ground and stated he would ‘rather go down that recant the contents of the said letter.’

According to another unnamed source close to Nyako, the peace meeting reached a deadlock because of the Adamawa’s governor’s strong-headedness.

“At that point, the governor is willing to step down rather than recant the content of the letter in question,” the source was quoted as saying.

“It is true that the meeting got deadlocked at that point but another round of discussions was slated for Tuesday night (last night) but we cannot say whether the outcome will change anything,” the source added.
