Oluwatoyin Adesanmi yesterday added a second gold medal in weightlifting to Team Nigeria's haul at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Adesanmi who lifted the same 207kg as another Nigerian, Obioma Okoli, was awarded the gold based on the rule of having the lighter body weight. Okoli settled for the silver. Yadav Punam of India got bronze with 202kg. President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, yesterday attributed the inspiring performance of the federation at the on-going Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to hard work.http://allafrica.com/stories/201407280653.html



Weightlifting has put Nigeria on the medal chart through two gold, one silver and one bronze medals. Chika Amalaha won the other gold while Nkechi Okpara bronze was the country's first medal of the Glasgow 2014. On Friday Amahala secured the country's first gold medal at the Games in the 53kg class, a day after Okpara set the tone with a bronze medal in the female 48kg category.
