OSUN 2014: AREGBESOLA WINS!!!

THE incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, has won the Saturday governorship election in Osun State, polling a total of 394,684 votes, to defeat his closest rival, Senator Iyiola Omisore, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, who polled 292,747 votes, while the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, polled 8,892 votes.

At precisely 7.30 a.m., the Returning Officers of the election, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University OAU Ile-Ife, Osun State, Professor Idowu Bamitele Omole, formally declared incumbent Governor Aregbesola of the APC re-elected.

According to the Returning Officer, the governor met the requirement of the law for the election by polling the highest number of votes.

There was spontaneous jubilation from the sprinkle of APC sympathisers, as Professor Omole announced the final result with many of them in engaging hugging and effusive smiles.

Omole said the election is an anti-climax to the anxiety that preceded the poll, just as he situated the success on adequate preparations.
