FALCONETS beat Korea 6-2 to setup Final with Germany - U-20

FALCONETS’ striker Asisat Oshoala has expressed surprise at the high number of goals she scored in the semi-final of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

The Nigerian scored four out of her side’s six against the Asians in Moncton to set up a final match against Germany in Montreal, Canada.Speaking after the match, Oshoala said: “I never expected to score this much, the chances came and I just utilised them.”

Oshoala, who plays for Rivers Angels in the Nigerian Professional Women League, however, was able to pin-point the secret of the Falconets’ potency against the highly rated Korean side. “We had a good fighting spirit because we had told ourselves that nobody was going to take our glory from us,” she stated.

And Oshoala is so confident that the fact that their determination saw them through to the final already means that the Nigerian team will be triumphant this time around.

“We made that promise, so winning the semi final means victory in the final,” she said.

The Nigerian U-20 girls face Germany in the final on Sunday and it offers the Africans the opportunity to avenge the 0-2 defeat at the hands of the Germans in the final of the 2010 edition hosted by the Europeans.
