 Frank Lampard is set to play a part for Manchester City against Chelsea, the club for whom he made 648 appearances.

City pair Stevan Jovetic (hamstring) and Fernando (groin) remain sidelined, but Pablo Zabaleta is available after serving a European ban in midweek.

Spain international Diego Costa will start for Chelsea, despite a hamstring problem restricting him from playing more than one game a week.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says he is taking a risk playing the striker.

Costa, 25, has scored seven goals in four Premier League games, but started on the bench in the 1-1 draw with Schalke in the Champions League on Wednesday, after scoring a hat-trick against Swansea four days before.

"Diego is not in the best condition, but he will start the game," said Mourinho.

"He plays this game; he cannot play against Bolton [in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday]. It's as simple as that.

"I know clearly that we have to try to protect him until he gets completely fit."
