United States sends warships to Libyan waters
« on: September 13, 2012, 08:48:10 AM »

The United States has sent two destroyers to Libyan waters following the death of the American ambassador during a violent anti-US demonstration, with President Barack Obama warning that the killers would be brought to justice.

The USS Laboon and USS McFaul, both Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, have been sent to the waters near the North African country, according to CNN.

The report cited U.S. officials as saying the ships will give President Obama "flexibility," should his administration decide to take action against suspected militants in Libya.

Other reports cited senior officials as saying the deployment is made as a precautionary measure.

The deployment came a day after Libyan gunmen attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, killing U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and other three U.S. diplomats.
