Following the collapse of the church building, the Lagos State government set up a judicial panel to look into the cause of the collapse.

The panel is scheduled to start sitting on Monday 13 October at the Lagos State High court at Ikeja, Lagos.

PMNEWS gathered that all the parties involved have been summoned to appear before the panel when it begins sitting.

It will be recalled the building collapse caused a controversy following claims and counter-claims as to the cause.

The state government has partly hinged the collapse on building agents who did not get approval to erect the structure, adding that, it was due to structural deficit as the building was originally a two-storey building.

TB Joshua had made several claims that the building was demolished with explosives. He also blamed an aircraft that hovered over the building four times as a possible cause for the collapse.

he Coroner Inquest into the circumstances which led to the collapse of a six-storey building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) at Ikotun area of Lagos State commenced sitting yesterday with a charge to the families of the victims to donate blood for DNA.
The Coroner’s Inquest, which was constituted by the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice under the state Coroner’s System Law No. 7 of 2007, will investigate the cause and circumstances of several deaths caused by the collapsed building and bring its findings and recommendations to the appropriate authorities.

A total of 115 persons, mostly South Africans, allegedly died in the September 12 collapsed building.

At the inaugural sitting yesterday, the Coroner, Chief Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, explained that the relations of the victims would be needed to donate blood to enable the pathologists identify the bodies through DNA test, after which the bodies will be released for burial.
Komolafe said the DNA examination, which is a major aspect in the inquest, would not be done if relatives were not available to identify their deceased relations.

The Coroner also fixed October 16 to visit the site of the collapsed building.
“I empathise with the families of the victims but I want to seize this opportunity to state the importance of the DNA to this inquest. Relatives of victims should avail themselves and donate blood to enable the pathologists identify the bodies.
