Flood Wreaks Havoc on Buildings, markets and schools In Makurdi
« on: October 13, 2014, 12:25:30 PM »
Torrential rainfalls have wreaked havoc on residential buildings, markets and schools in Makurdi and other parts of Benue State.

As a result of the heavy downpour many houses in Makurdi metropolis including Wurukum, Gyado Villa, Kucha Utebe, Idye village as well as Wadata, Achusa Media Village and Agboughoul communities have been submerged.

LEADERSHIP Sunday observed that many residents lost their valuable belongings to the flood that followed the heavy downpour.

The uncontrollable water wreaked havoc on the Pleasure Travels Transport Company, the Kingdom Heritage Schools and Benue Links Company. The popular Wurukum and Wadata markets could not open for business, because of the water that filled the shops.

At the Pleasure Travels and Ageshi motor parks, vehicles were seen totally submerged by water.

The Managing Director of Pleasure Travels, Dr Paul Ubwa, who was seen moving office equipment out of the offices, said the flooding was propelled by blocked gutters and drainages from the popular Abu King Shuluwa road, a situation he said meandered the water to the Wurukum area to cause damage.
