Gov Akpabio submits his interest form for Senate 2015 under PDP
« on: November 07, 2014, 09:32:59 AM »
AHEAD of November 22 Senatorial primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governor Godswill Akpabio, of Akwa Ibom State, yesterday, stormed the party's national Secretariat with his loyalists to support his expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the 2015 Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district election.

Speaking with Journalists yesterday at PDP Secretariat after submitting his forms, Akpabio who doubles as Chairman of PDP governors' forum, said the ambition of some state governors to seek election to the senate was not a threat to the re-election bid of serving senators.

Akpabio who assured that the grievances of the PDP senators over last Saturday ward congress would soon be resolved, said only nine governors wanted to go to the senate and should not affect the senate which has 109 members, saying "the senate has about 109 members and the serving governors of PDP who are interested in going to the senate are not up to nine. So, we have at least 100 chances for incumbent senators and if it is possible for us to return more than 75 percent of our senators to the national assembly, it will help a lot in legislation to deepen democracy. So, there is no threat to any senator where the governors of PDP have interest to go into the senate because I believe just like the sky, there is enough space for every bird to fly and I think politics is about people and the people's choice should be allowed to prevail.
