Jos Hit by Twin Blasts, Dozens Reported Dead
« on: December 11, 2014, 11:00:03 PM »
Two explosions hit a market in the city of Jos in central Nigeria, leaving more than 30 people dead according to witnesses.

The blasts occurred at about 6:30 p.m. local time at the Terminus market in the central city of Jos in Plateau state, as traders were closing their stalls, according to police and witnesses. Tanimu Musa, a local resident who helped take injured people to hospital, said he counted about 30 bodies.

Nigeria, Africa’s biggest economy, is struggling to contain a rebellion by the Islamist group Boko Haram. The militants have killed more than 13,000 people in the past five years, according to the government.

Police didn’t immediately announce casualty figures for the latest attack and Dominic Esin, public relations officer for the Plateau police, couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
