The Federal Government Saturday said it has already earmarked N178m for resettlement and compensation for the communities that would be demolished as a result of the construction of the light rail in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja environs.

The Minister of FCT, Alhaji Bala Mohammed said this at the take-off of National Good Governance Tour, 2012 organised by Ministry of Information and led by Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku.

The tour was part of the ongoing inspection of government projects across the country titled ‘Good governance tour’.

The Abuja rail mass transit project is expected to create over one million jobs for the teeming youths in the territory.

He explained that the project award was predicated on the procurement of a $500 million loan from Chinese government through the China-Exim Bank as done for the Nigeria Railway Modernisation Project (NRMP), while the counterpart funding of N22billion has already been paid to the contractors.

He disclosed that when completed, the rail project would transport over two million passengers daily to different destinations in FCT and other states.
