Most parts of Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, is still submerged by flood water from the River Niger that overflowed its banks. The incident has forced the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to throw the town into darkness to forestall electrocution, as most houses and residents are submerged under water.

However, the state government has called on the Federal Government to come to its aid, given the magnitude of the disaster. This is even as the state government has set up temporary camps in various parts of the state that were affected by the flood.

Meanwhile, because of long vehicular queues in Lokoja earlier, especially at the Dumez bridge, no fewer than 40 persons had reportedly been rushed to hospitals for suffocation. over 2,000 passengers and 200 tankers conveying petroleum products were said to be trapped in the traffic gridlock, those that are either going to the northern parts of the country, especially Abuja and the southern states.
