Two drug traffickers were caught smuggling 4.285kg of methamphetamine to India

Two suspected drug traffickers – Eboro Okwudili and Daniel Opara – were arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for attempting to smuggle about 4.285kg of methamphetamine to India.

Both men were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, during the screening of passengers on an Ethiopian Airline flight to India. The methamphetamine, with a street value of N68.5m was hidden inside a brown luggage owned by Okwudili.

The NDLEA Commander at the airport, Mr. Hamza Umar, said, “Okwudili was the person travelling, while Opara had simply accompanied him to the airport as directed by the suspected drug baron. During screening, the drug was discovered inside Okwudili’s luggage by NDLEA officers.”

Claiming the arrest was his first experience, Okwudili said, “This is my first time of smuggling drugs. My friend lured me into this trade, gave me $2,000 and also paid for my return tickets. I went along with the arrangement because I was having financial troubles; I needed some capital to sustain my business of selling clothes and my pregnant wife was sick.” A native of Abia State,  Okwudili lives in Lagos with his wife and two children.
