Despite little fanfare or promotion, Adele’s James Bond theme song for Skyfall has rocketed straight to the top of the iTunes charts.

The theme song, also entitled Skyfall, premiered in the UK at 00:07am on the singer’s website and became available to download immediately, with eager fans promptly pushing it to number one on iTunes.

And it seems its popularity has caused it to break records as it looks set to become the fastest to hit number one on the downloading service to date.

If fans continue to buy the new tune it also looks highly likely that the song will be Adele’s fourth number one single in the UK.

The latest odds from bookmaker Paddy Power are 4/5 that the belting track will debut at number one – and with it crown Adele as the first ever artist to take a Bond song to the top spot in the UK.

Star of the movie Daniel Craig appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night and spoke about the theme song for the latest James Bond film.

Daniel said: ‘When Adele’s name came up I just jumped at it, I just said, “We have to get her.”’ He added: ‘I just thought that she has the voice and she’s got the tone that we wanted.’

Many of the singer’s fans took to their Twitter accounts to praise her efforts on the single.

One wrote: ‘The theme song for the new 007 that Adele did is perfect.’

Whereas another tweeted: ‘Wow. Adele’s Skyfall is blummin’ good. A proper Bond song. #007 #skyfall’.

Adele follows Jack White and Alicia Keys, who provided the theme to A Quantum Of Solace, while Chris Cornell voiced Craig’s first 007 performance, Casino Royale.

Other notable Bond singers include Lulu, Sir Tom Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey, as well as A-Ha and Duran Duran.

Skyfall sees Daniel Craig reprises his role as 007, with director Sam Mendes at the helm and Javier Bardem as the film’s villain. The movie will have its world premiere in London on October 23rd, before it is released on October 26th.
