Lagos State commercial cyclists protest ban

THE Lagos government yesterday said that the full enforcement of the state’s  traffic law would commence soon, even as the commercial motorcycle operators staged a protest over the prohibition of their operation in 475 roads in the state metropolis.

Armed with banners of varying sizes, the operators under the aegis of Concerned Okada Riders who trooped out in their hundreds, near the Lagos State House of Assembly, insisted that government should not ban them from their operations, claiming that their prohibition on the 475 major highways and bridges was tantamount to complete ban in the state.

Some of the inscriptions on their placards read: “The wicked shall not go unpunished”, “Now, Opeifa don become anti-human rights activist” and “United Okada Riders Stakeholders of Lagos State, in conjunction with Civil Society and Human Rights Group say no to banning of okada in 475 roads in Lagos.”
