Gunmen kill Kano lawmaker

Unknown gunmen on Saturday night in Kano killed a member of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Garko.

The suspected gunmen reportedly injured two other persons during the attack, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

An eyewitness, who spoke to NAN in Kano on Sunday on condition of anonymity, said the incident occurred around 8p.m on Saturday.

The eyewitness said that the lawmaker, who was representing Garko constituency, was tracked down by two gunmen riding on a motorcycle at his meeting point at Unguwa Uku in the Kano metropolis.

NAN leant that the lawmaker was in the company with some friends when the two gunmen opened fire on them.

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, confirmed the incident.

“It is true that the incident happened and the lawmaker was killed,” he said.

Reacting to the killing, a member of the state Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Ririwai, described the deceased as a very hardworking legislator.

Ririwai, who represents Doguwa constituency in the House, also described the late Garko as “very honest and trustworthy person.”
