Nominees for the BBC African footballer of the year unveiled

The five candidates for the 2012 BBC African footballer of the year award have been revealed.

Yaya Toure has made the shortlist for the second consecutive year and he is joined by his Ivorian team-mate Didier Drogba. Senegal’s Bemba Ba, Morocco’s Younes Belhanda and Zambia skipper Christopher Katongo.

Since the award began in 1991 only three Nigerians have previously won the awards first was Emmanuel Amunike in 1996, Nwankwo Kanu in 1197 and 1999 while Jay-jay Okocha picked the award twice in 2003 and 2004.

The winner will be decided by African football fans, which have until December the 13th to vote for their choice.
