Breaking news: Explosion rocks Kano

An explosion Monday morning rocked the city of Kano at a junction along the popular textile market in the commercial city. Details are sketchy but eyewitnesses say two people were feared dead in the blast.

KANO – Two person were feared dead when an explosion rocked Plaza junction, by Kanti Kori  in Kano during the morning rush hour on Monday.

Reports say that a security personnel and a passerby were killed in the blast. JTF officials have however, cordoned off the area while investigation into the attack has commenced.

Spokesman of the JTF in the city, Captain Ikediche Iweha confirmed the incident to Vanguard on  the telephone, adding that he will volunteer details as soon as they are available.

Four people were said to be injured in the explosion around Kano central Eid ground yesterday. Security officials said a timed-bomb planted by the fence of the worship centre exploded around 8:30am, leaving a hole on a portion of the fence.

The explosion happened metres away from the popular Kantin Kwari textile market. Residents told Daily Trust that the blast occurred at a security post, saying few officers were present at the time. The attack was believed to have targeted the security personnel manning the post.
