Kidnapped Koreans freed

The four Koreans and a Nigerian abducted by eight gunmen from the Hyndai Fabrication Company, in Okpoama, Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State have been released.

Our correspondent gathered that Jong Ken, Hi Kim, Doo Lee, Joon Chae and a Nigerian, Austin Giwa were set free by the bandits at 9pm on Friday.

The victims were abducted at about 3:30pm on Monday from the company located close to Odioma near the Atlantic Ocean.

The assailants were said to have invaded the company on speed boats, gained access to the firm’s premises unchallenged and later took away the victims.

But four days after holding their victims hostage in the mangrove swamps, the bandits were said to have released them at the Yenagoa waterside.

Operatives of the Special Police unit in the state codenamed, Operation Door-Akpor, were said to have found the victims at Azikoro Village in Yenagoa.

Narrating how the victims were released, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Kingsley Omire said, “From the brief that I have, there was a disagreement among the kidnappers who decided to release their victims.

“They brought them to Azikoro Village and I directed Operation Doo-Akpor to go and pick them up. They were not released by any security agency.”

Omire said two persons had been arrested in connection with the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing to arrest the perpetrators.
