How to have a merry Xmas

Christmas can be merrier. Aside the big dinners and expensive gifts, you can still have a fun-filled season. Just celebrate it your way, without the attendant commercialism.

Have fun with friends/family

Just imagine that by next Tuesday and Wednesday, you are off work. But Christmas is an opportunity to catch up with friends and family members. Take advantage of this time to reconnect with them, and enjoy the fellowship.

Have a sing-along

According to www.ehow.com, either have a carol session at your home, go door-to-door, or go to an old folks’ home and do it. Learn some Christmas or seasonal songs, and sing! It is fun, and even if your voice is not great, hopefully, you will not be singing alone—you will get some cover from your more talented friends! Try many carol songs, sing and be merry!

Organise a dinner party

Why not invite your friends or family over for a dinner/party? You do not need a large amount of money to get this done. Want gifts? Small tokens are fine. Alternatively, just have everyone over for a nice dinner. The important thing is just to get together with people you love and share love of the season with them.

Go, ahead, have fun

You can be at the beach or a park. This gives you the opportunity to get outdoors, appreciate the beauty of nature, and enjoy what Christmas has to offer. You can play a game outside together with your kids.

Give to others

Whether to your family, friends, or to others less fortunate, spend some time this Christmas in giving. Consider preparing some special foods for the poor and needy. Why not visit people who live alone or have no family close? Or you prefer dropping in to see the sick in hospital? You might even give handmade gifts to people who are not likely to get much this season.

Go, see a film

Create other activities that do not centre on opening gifts. On Christmas Day, instead of buying many gifts to open, go out to a Christmas movie or a concert.

Go on a cruise

In recent years, boat trips are very popular. Partake in a cruise or visit a city that offers various amusement parks and museums. Be adventurous and enjoy your excursion.

Drive around

Ambush your kids for instance with a surprise late night drive around town to see lights and decorations. Be sure to have Christmas tunes ready in the car to sing along. Older children will especially get a kick out of this special holiday adventure!

Take your kids to see Santa

Christmas really is a time for the children — so why not take them down to the local ‘Santa’s Grotto’ and meet the man himself? It’s brilliant watching the faces of your little ones whilst they are waiting in line to see Santa. Not only is this a great thing to do for your children it also helps to reinforce the whole ‘Santa Claus is real’ debacle, which keeps their imagination running wild. It is important for children to be able to have a childhood and by taking them to see Santa; you are actually feeding their imagination.

Pamper yourself

Everyone loves a good pamper. So, whether buying something special for yourself or family, having a massage, drinking a bottle of good wine or sitting indoors and eating your favourite dishes, you make your day more interesting, fun and relaxing.

Dance!

Dancing is fun! It gives your body, mind, and soul an excellent workout. Compile albums of songs you or your family love and play on the festive days. Dance with your spouse, your kids, friends and neighbours. It’s fun. What more? Dancing contains a social component that solitary fitness endeavours do not have. It gives you an opportunity to develop strong social ties that contribute to self-esteem and a positive outlook. Moreso, dancing really does lift your spirits. Have a merry Christmas.
