It will Chelsea's Madness if they allow LAMPARD Go - Alan Shearer

I FIND it absolutely incredible that Chelsea should decide there is no way they will offer Frank Lampard a new contract.

You have to wonder what more he could possibly have done to convince the people in power at the club that he deserves to be kept on for at least one more season.

It has always been my belief that when you judge a player, you don’t look at his age, you look at his level of performance.

And on his performances alone this season, you would have to say any club would want to have Frank on board.

As well as being a fantastic player, he is a wonderful global ambassador for the club.

Everyone I know admires and respects Frank for the way he conducts himself, as well as the wonderful contribution he has made on the pitch in his 11 years as a Chelsea player.

Yes, I understand all good things come to an end. But I still feel Chelsea would benefit hugely from having Frank around for another year or two.

The young midfielders they have brought in this season, such as Eden Hazard and Oscar, are bound to learn from watching Frank, and I’d be keen to let them carry on doing that.

Frank will be 35 in June and is not going to play every game.

But he seems to be playing just as much as Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes at Manchester United, probably a bit more.

And he is still capable of making a big contribution, on and off the pitch, because Frank is someone who has looked after himself. You never hear a bad word about him, do you?

I’d also sum up Frank’s goalscoring record for Chelsea in one word — staggering.
